Greetings Soccer Family,
After speaking with both state and local county health officials, as well as PYSA board members, we have decided to offer Fall Soccer on the Peninsula. We will extend this for kids entering Kindergarten through 8th grade this fall. Please know that this season will not look like the years of the past. We will have much smaller teams and will therefore need MANY more coach volunteers. That being said, if you are looking to sign your child up PLEASE be prepared to help. If we don’t have enough coaches, we will not be able to offer this opportunity for your kids to play soccer.
You will not be alone. Know that when you sign up to coach you will receive weekly emails with pre-designed practice plans including written instruction, diagrams, and online videos, so all you need to do is bring the equipment (provided by PYSA), set up the field according to the practice plan, and teach the drills. We would like to see two practices a week for K-4th and three weekly practices for 5th-8th graders. COVID protocols require kids to keep 6’ of distance between each other during practices (this will certainly help teach the concept of “spreading out” ) and when they are on the sidelines with others not participating on the field, they will be required to wear a mask.
We will likely only be holding practices this season with no games so there will be no uniforms. If we are able to play games, we will use pinnies to differentiate teams. The metric to allow games to be played will be 25 cases per 100,000 people for a rolling 10 day average. If that mark is achieved PYSA will make an announcement of a game schedule.
Registration is going to be much shorter this year because of the delay in rolling this out. It will open Monday, August 17th and close Sunday, August 23rd. The cost for this season has been significantly decreased to $25 per child. Practices will start the week of August 31st as long as we have enough coach volunteers. Teams will be decided by both age and physical address so please make sure you fill these fields out accurately on the registration website. We will also have to cap the amount of registrations we can accept due to the smaller team sizes, an anticipated greater number of teams, and the limited field availability.
Please know that we recognize that this will not be a traditional season. Our hope as an organization is to get kids outside and active. Even with the restrictions, we believe that this season will be a wonderful opportunity for children to be children. Physical movement is so vital not only to their physical health, but also their mental and emotional health. Our goal is to give them the space to do this.
Looking forward to getting the ball rolling!
